Double Carport Size, Style and Prices

Looking for information about the Double Carport Price and Size?

A question many people ask is how much is the double carport.  Driving down the road you may recall seeing a sign on a carport that says double carport.  Usually the size of the steel carport kits for sale with those signs on them is a 18x21 size carport.  A lot of times if someone is wanting to get a double carport they want to park two cars underneath the carport and for most people especially if it is going to be used on a daily basis you will want to go with a slightly wider size.  If you just need enough space for a car and a motorcycle or a car and a mower than the 18' wide should work fine but many times it is a car and SUV or car and truck which can create a situation where you end up hitting the car door on the other vehicle or on the vertical upright steel carport tubing.

For two smaller compact cars a better size double carport I would recommend would be 20x21.  If you are wanting to make the carport fully enclosed with two garages doors then the 20x21 is the most narrow size of the steel garages that have two garage doors.

The next larger size double carport is the 22x21 which provides that little bit of extra room.  The largest of double carport is the 24x21 which is great if you have two larger vehicles or just want extra room so you don't have to worry about the door paint being chipped.

One other way is to get more space is to go with a longer size carport.  The carport length run longer by 5' increments so 26' long is the next longer size, than 31' long etc.  This is nice if you have a really long truck or if your getting a steel garage and want to have a few extra feet of storage space for shelving or car supplies that extra 5' is really helpful.

Another option is to get a double carport and enclose a shed area in the back end for enclosed storage like shown in this picture.

double wide carport with enclosed shed

As you can see the metal carports can be used to store a variety of items besides a car or truck.

Here is a list of the metal carport sizes and prices.  Once you decide on the size you will want to figure out which style carport you want.

Double Carport Styles

regular style carport

                                                Regular Style Roof (Rounded Roof)

boxed eave carport

Boxed Eave Style Roof (A-frame roof but metal sheeting goes length of building meaning if you get a heavy snow it would not slide off so you would need to push the snow off of the roof)

vertical style carport

Vertical Style Roof (Looks just like boxed eave style with a-frame roof but look at roof closely and you will notice the metal roof sheeting goes up and down to help snow slide off)

When you are figuring out the style of the steel carport or steel garage you may want decide on the budget you have as the regular is the most affordable and the boxed eave is priced in the middle and the vertical is the strongest but the most costly of the 3 styles because in order to make the roof sheeting go up and down on the roof cross bracing have to be attached underneath the roof to attach the roof sheeting.

All of the metal carports come standard with 6' legs and you can make them taller in 1' levels taller.  Do you want to partially enclose the carport or leave it open?  Do you need blue print drawings for your permit process if so you will want to make sure you make it certified as the certified metal buildings come with blue print drawings.

Other options to think about are going with a thicker 12 ga tubing which has a 20 year rust through warranty vs the standard 14 ga tubing which doesn't carry any warranty.

If the carport is going on the ground it is anchored for free to the ground with rebar.  Want a little extra strength against the wind you may want to add 4 mobile home anchors putting one in each corner.

The Alan's Factory Outlet double carports for sale are delivered and installed for free to over half the Nation in 27 States in the USA.

Metal Carport Kits

Metal Carport Kits Delivered and Installed

The metal carport kits are setup by a professional crew for a turn key metal carport installed in one day.  The metal carport parts are delivered in several precut sections for example the base rail has sleeves sticking up which than allows the steel post to go on top of them and are secured with screws.  The steel roof rafters are put on top of that and than the roof sheeting is attached on the top of the steel carport kit.

Most of the kits metal carport are put together in one day a very large size like this one shown here would most likely take approximately 2 days assemble.

metal carport kits

As you can see the carports can be made to provide for many different purposes such as a large picnic shelter area for a park or a small one just for you and your family.

Other popular ways to utilize one of the steel carport kits is as a cover for your car, truck, van, bus and farm equipment.  They can be made taller to protect your rv motor home or travel trailer.

Here is a look at the metal carport parts to get a feel for the materials used on the carport kit.

metal carport parts for metal carport kits and metal garage kits

The kits on the steel buildings come in either steel carport kits or steel garage kits.  The garages come with a garage door and you can add serveral options such as a walk in door or a window.  Need a larger garage door that is also available.

The metal building kits come in 3 different styles

  1. Regular style metal buildings
  2. Boxed eave style metal buildings
  3. Vertical roof style metal buildings

After you decide which style the next step is to figure out how much room you need which will in turn help you figure out the size of the steel structure.  On the sizes listed we have the width listed as the first number and the second number is the length.  You will want than pick the leg height along with the options and colors.

The metal carports kit come with 14 ga steel tubing and 29 ga sheeting.  An optional thicker 12 ga tubing can be used to construct the metal building.  The 12 ga steel tubing has a 20 year rust through warranty.

Wondering which states these carports and garages are delivered to?

The steel carport kits and steel garage kits are delivered and installed in 27 states in the USA.  Here is a list of the states where the metal buildings are setup:  Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

All of the structures are delivered year round for an easy storage solution any time of the year.  Please keep in mind there is a delivery time frame which varies from state to state so plan ahead and order the carport or garage in advance before you will need it is a good idea.

The one requirement we have on the metal carports is that you have a level area for us to set it up on.  This can be on the gravel, ground, grass, concrete or asphalt.  If it is any more than 3 to 4 inches un level we are unable to install the carport.

Alan's Factory Outlet has two other types of kits that are delivered nationwide in the lower 48 states in the USA and they are the gazebo kits and pergola kits.  The gazebo kits and pergola kits are both built by the Amish and are made in either wood and vinyl.

The final type of kit available at Alan's Factory Outlet are the wood shed kits which are delivered in VA and WV.

We have a wide variety of fully assembled Amish built sheds and garages which are delivered for free in 21 local counties in VA and WV with delivery available in all of Virginia and West Virginia on the prefab structures.

Buying a Metal RV Carport Cover For Your RV or Motorhome

buying a metal rv carport cover motorhome

What to look for when buying a metal rv carport cover for your rv or motorhome?

Of course the size is the first place to start.  The most narrow metal carports at Alan's Factory Outlet is 12' wide which will work for most motorhomes however you may want to go a little wider to the next size larger 18' wide rv cover for plenty of room for the doors and to comfortable be able to walk around.  Other sizes are 20', 22' and 24' wide.  There are also even larger sizes such as triple wide carports and even 40' wide metal carports but in most cases you wouldn't need to buy that wide of a metal rv carport cover.

You will also want to measure to see how long your rv or motorhome is to get a rv cover that will not only cover the motorhome, but also give you at least a few feet on the front and back ends.  Something else to think about is how long will you be owning the motorhome you currently have.  Are you planning on buying a larger size one in the future if this is the case it may be wise to invest a little more than you planned into a larger metal rv carport cover that way literally you'll be covered in the future and not need to spend more on another motorhome cover down the road when you could have settled that with getting the right size rv cover the first time.

The last measurement you will want to take is how tall the rv or motorhome is.  You will want to take two different measurements.  The first is the height of the roof of the motorhome and the 2nd is the highest point such as an ac or something else on the roof which is higher than the roof.  This will help make sure you buying a metal rv carport cover that is tall enough and at the same time you don't want to get it too tall when going a littler shorter can save you money unless like we talked about earlier you know you plan on getting a larger cover in the future.

You have several options to considering when buying a metal rv carport cover.  You can close both sides or like the picture above can just close one size.  You can also fully enclose it and turn it into a rv metal garage.

Consider these 3 options when buying a metal rv carport cover to help make it stronger

  • Buying the thicker 12 gauge tubing over the standard 14 guage tubing (The 12 gauge tubing will give you a 20 year rust through warranty)
  • Getting it fully braced with 4' braces for additional wind and snow strength
  • Buying the mobile home anchors for extra strength against the wind

The final step to make when buying a metal rv carport cover is the roof line style.  You get to decide on a regular style rv carport which is built in a barn roof and in a gable a-frame roof with comes in two different styles.  The first is a boxed eave and the second one is vertical roof.  They both look exactly the same at first glance but there is one major different.  The vertical rv carport cover is built with the metal roof sheeting going side to side to allow the snow to slide off.

Alan's Factory Outlet metal rv carport covers are delivered and installed for free in 27 states in the USA.  Here are the states in the USA with free installation:  Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

As the old saying goes measure twice and cut once and I believe that is good advice when you are buying a metal rv carport cover.  Please feel free to ask a question or leave a comment about any personal experience you may have on buying a rv carport cover.

Metal Garage Price Compared to Metal Carport Price

Metal Garage Price Compared to Metal Carport Price

metal carport priceThe carport price is going to be more economical when compared to the fully enclosed metal garage but the carport will only give you roof top coverage where the metal garage price is more due to the fact that that not only is the roof covered but both sides and both ends are covered with a garage door on one end.  If you don't need full protection from the sun and weather or theft than the carport would be the way to go but if you need total protection from the elements than investing a little more today can help save you money in the long run from the metal garage that will help protect your valuable items.

metal garage priceOne other option that some of our clients have done is go with a metal carport now to save money and down the road you can close the sides and ends and add a garage door later when the funds become available.  Two things to keep in mind if you want to go this route is you will need to make sure the leg height on the carport is tall enough for the garage door to fit later.  The regular style carports can be the same height as the garage door height while the 2 other styles boxed eave and vertical carport leg height will need to be one foot taller than the garage door height.  One other thing to remember is there is a $50 trip charge for all add ons under $595.  If the amount is over $595 it is free delivery and installation.  The carports and metal garage price includes free delivery and installation to 27 states in the USA.

Now to the metal garage price and the metal carport price.  For comparison purposes we will go with the smallest size carport and metal garage we have.  The metal carport price and metal garage price is the current price and subject to change without notice and prices may vary in certain locations due to construction specs required in some locations.

12x21 metal carport price for regular style carport with 5' legs:  $595

12x21 metal garage price for regular style metal garage with 8' legs fully enclosed with 1-9x8 garage door:  $2470

The metal carports and metal garages are built in many larger sizes of wider and longer metal buildings.

How Much Does a Metal Carport Cost

how much does a metal carport cost

How Much Does a Metal Carport Cost?

The metal carport cost will vary depending on the size and style.  So when someone asks, "How much does a metal carport cost?"  There are three main questions that need to be answered to get an accurate idea on the metal carport cost for each person based on their needs.

3 Metal Carport Cost Factors

  1. The size of the metal carport you buy will effect the carport cost more than anything else.  Of course you don't want to go with a carport to large for what you plan on using it for but you may want to also look into the future and is there a chance that you may get a larger vehicle, boat, motorhome or an extra vehicle or farm equipment.  The same point holds true for making sure the metal carport will properly cover your items.  You will want to first figure out how wide you need the carport to be.  Alan's Factory Outlet metal carports start out at 12' wide.  The other widths available are 18', 20', 22', 24', 26', 28', 30', 32', 34', 36', 38' and 40' wide.  After you get a feel for the width you need you will want to decide on the length.  The shortest length is 21' long followed by 26', 31', 36', 41', 46', 51', 56' and 61'.  You can actually go longer than 61' feet if you need to but the sizes run in 5' increments longer.  The last size configuration you will need to make is the leg height.  The leg heights start out at 5' or 6' height depending on the metal carport style.  You can make the carport taller in 1' increments with up to 12' legs.  One thing to look at is the peak of the carport is going to be taller than the leg height you choose.  So the width, length and height will all help you start to get a picture of how much the metal carport will cost, but without the next two questions answered the exact price will still be unknown.
  2. What style carport you pick will help you find out the metal carport cost.  Alan's Factory Outlet has three different styles of carports.  The styles are regular, boxed eave and vertical style.  The regular style is going to be the metal carport that cost the least amount of money.  The boxed eave and vertical style look the exact same except the roof on the vertical carport is up and down which will allow snow to slide off the roof.  The vertical carport will cost the most but it is definitely the strongest of the three carports.metal carport cost prices
  3. The last thing that will determine the metal carport cost is options.  There are several options such as a thicker 12 ga tubing which gives you a 20 year rust through warranty.  Metal carports can also be fully braced to help make them stronger.  You can also get mobile home anchors, a certified carport, close the sides, close gables or ends and add a garage door to turn the carport into a metal garage.  You could also turn the carport into a metal garage at a later date but a key point to remember that in order to have enough clearance for the garage door on the regular carport the legs can be the same height as the garage door but on the boxed and vertical carports you will need the legs to be one foot taller than the garage door height.

Alan's Factory Outlet has the metal carport cost for each of the sizes, styles and the option prices listed here:  Metal Carport Prices  This shows you the metal garage cost:  Metal Garage Prices  At the bottom of the price page there is a free online carport and metal garage price quote form you can fill out to get a carport price quote.

2 Car Metal Carport

2 car metal carport

2 car metal carport is delivered and installed for free to 19 different states in the USA.  The 2 car metal carport comes in a variety of sizes.  The width for the 1 car carport is 12' wide then there is a 18' wide some people call this a 2 car carport but it is a little to narrow to be able to park a car and safely open the doors.  The 18' wide would be fine for a car and a motorcycle or a small tractor.  A small 2 car metal carport would start out at 20' wide then the next size is 22' wide and that a comfortable and most popular 2 car carport is the 24' wide.

The shortest in length is a 21' long carport which is OK for smaller vehicles but a 26' long would be the way to go if you have a longer truck or if your wanting to have an area on the back end for storage which really comes in handy.  You can make the metal 2 car carport longer in 5' increments.

The metal carport is anchored to the ground, asphalt or concrete for free.  The 2 car carport can be made taller depending on the height of the car or truck your wanting to park under the carport.  The legs get taller in one foot increments with up to 12' legs.  The 12' tall leg makes a great rv carport.

If you need a carport wider than the 2 car carport we also have a triple wide carport and a 40 wide carport.

The carports can be partially enclosed, fully enclosed and turned into a metal garage or let open.

The 2 car carport is custom built in your choice of 13 different colors.

Metal Carports Are Not Just For Cars

metal carportsMetal Carports are not just for cars.  The metal carports also make a great picnic shelter.  Put a grill under it and you have a shaded place for family and friends to gather and catch up new events in their life and make some new memories.  Carports also provide a shelter that will keep everyone dry from an evening shower.

The metal carport shown in this picture is a 24x31 metal carport.  Carports come standard with 2' center braces and 4' corner braces.  This carport has options 4' braces for additional wind and snow strength.  The 24x31 carports have 7 tubing bows which are 5' on center.  The tubing is 2 1/2" square tubing which is 14 ga.  A thicker 12 ga 2 1/4" tubing is also available as an upgrade.  This 12 ga tubing comes with a 20 year rust through warranty.

Another idea is to use the metal carport during the warm summer months as a picnic shelter and during the winter snowy months you could use the carport to protect your car from getting snow and ice on it.  This will save you time and energy in the morning as you won't have to shovel or scrap the snow and ice off your car or cars.

There are many other sizes smaller and larger than the 24x31 carport size.

Metal garages are also available if you need a fully enclosed carport.

Feel free to share some of the ways you utilize your metal carport.

The carport kit in the above picture is shown with three options

  • Taller 9' legs
  • Fully braced with 4' braces

Carolina Carports

Carolina Carports

carolina carports

Carolina Carports metal carports are built in three different styles of carports and metal garages as shown in this picture.

Carolina Carports 3 Roof Styles

  1. Regular roof style carolina carports start out in the 12x21 size.  The base width is exactly 12' wide and the base length is 20' long.  It is called 21' long because the 6" front roof overhang and 6" back end overhang is counted in the overall dimensions.  The regular style metal carports are built with a traditional barn roof.  The regular carport is the most economical of the three carport styles.  Here are the carport prices.
  2. The middle style shown in this picture is the boxed eave metal carport.  The boxed eave carolina carports are built in an a-frame roof which is nice if the carport is right beside your home as most homes have an a-frame roof so the carport may go with the architect of your home better.  These carports also have the 6" roof overhang however when you get a boxed eave carport you get a 6" overhang on both sides.  As far as the price point goes these metal carports are the middle road on price.  They are a little bit more than the regular style carports but less than the next style we are getting ready to cover.
  3. The third carolina carports style is the vertical roof carport.  This carport looks just like the boxed eave carport as both are built in an a-frame roof and have a 6" overhang all the way around it.  The big difference is the roof is built with the ribs running side to side which allows the rain and snow to slide off it where on the other two style carports the sheeting ribs run lengthwise which causes the snow to stay on their roof.  In order to put the roof on this way on the vertical carports we have to place metal cross braces to attach the sheeting.  These extra metal braces along with the fact that the snow will slide of the roof make this the strongest of the three carolina carports.  The downside for those advantages in strength is the vertical carports are the most expensive of the three carport styles.  Vertical carports can be fully enclosed to make a metal garage.  Take a look at the metal garage prices

All of the carolina carports are built with 14 gauge tubing and 29 gauge sheeting.  Many options are available such as 12 gauge tubing which comes with a 20 year rust through warranty.  All carports come standard with center and corner braces.  Carolina carports are anchored to the ground, cement or asphalt with rebar or cement anchors for free.  Mobile home anchors for additional wind protection and fully braced carports are a couple of other options you may want to consider.

Carolina carports also has have many other sizes of steel buildings such as triple wide carports and lean to carports.

Alan's Factory Outlet carports and metal garages are delivered and setup for free to 18 different states.

Please feel free to ask a question or leave a comment about the carports.
