Small Sheds and Small Garages

Small building options:  Small sheds, barns and small garages and carports?

If your looking for a small storage shed there are several different options at Alan's Factory Outlet.

The smallest size shed and barn we have is a 6x6 size which comes with 3' single door and window.  There is also a 6x8 size if you need a couple extra feet in length.  The sheds in these size ranges are built in two different siding options:  small wood sheds and small vinyl sheds.  The storage buildings are delivered fully assembled with a truck and trailer.  Of course we will need enough room for the shed to be delivered to the location you want it.  If you don't have enough space we do have one other option and that would be the shed kits which are only available in the wood siding.  The small wood shed kits are painted and precut with the 4 walls built, windows and doors installed in the location you want them and delivered on a pallet shrink wrapped for you to put together when your ready.

If you want something a little bit wider than a 6' wide who do have several sizes of 8' wide sheds which come with 4' double doors.  It has a two 2' doors which both open giving you 48" wide clearance.

This is a 8x8 4' mini barn wood storage shed shown here.  The 8' wide sheds come with 2 pressure treated 4"x4" skids that go the full length of the structure. 

The smallest size board batten shed starts out in this 8x8 size.

If you go to the next size wider 10' wide you will get 5 pressure treated 4"x4" runners and also wider 5' double doors which give you 60" clearance if you have a wider mover you want to store in the storage building.

Some locations such as some of our customers from Fairfax, Virginia for example have height restrictions where they shed has to be shorter than 8' 6" in height.  We actually have only one style shed that is under these measurements and that is the 4' mini barn which has 4' sidewalls and is 8' at the peak. 

Another advantage of going with a smaller shed is under a certain size for example many location in VA don't have to get a building permit if the shed is under 200 square feet but are only supposed to get a zoning permit to make sure it is off the property line setbacks of the neighboring property.  This may vary along with setbacks being different from location to location so you will want to check and see what your local code requirements are as we do not get involved in the permit process and leave this up to each customer.

If your looking for something with a garage door but want to go with one of the small garages in the wood, vinyl or board and batten siding than the smallest size they begin in is the 12x12 size to accommodate the 9' wide by 7' tall garage door.  Of course if your putting a car in it you will want to go a little longer such as a 12x14, 12x16, 12x20 or 12x24 size to name a few.  The garage packages come with either a reinforced floor 3/4", 2"x4" floor joists 12" on center or without a floor which has 6"x6" pressure treated base around the perimeter of the garage.  The garages without a floor are the same price as it is a lot more on site labor involved because we have to brace it up with 6"x6" joists in order to deliver it and they are taken out on site once it is put into place.

Things to keep in mind on the small sheds and small garages

• The wood and vinyl shed measurements on the sizes listed for the width are from the roof overhang to roof overhang so the floor space will be less not to mention the 2"x4" sidewalls on both sides also take away from the floor space so all things being equal you may want to go slightly larger than you think you need.
• You will also want to make sure you leave enough room in the shed, garage or carport to allow for years down the road where you may replace the item your storing with a newer, bigger size or like most people over the years we do acquire more things that need to be protect in the building.

Another type of garage that is built on site and only comes without a floor are the metal garages.  The small metal garages start out in a 12x21 size.  This is also a great option if you don't have enough room for the prefab wood or vinyl garage to be delivered.  The steel buildings are anchored to level foundation.

If your just in need of a metal carport they also begin in the same 12x21 size just like the metal garage.  The small metal carports make a perfect shelter for a compact car or picnic retreat area in this size.
